NewZealand Visa Process

The New Zealand Immigration Services (NZIS) is the governement autohrity responsible for issuing visas and permits to enter New Zealand. If you want to study in New Zealand you need to obtain a student visa.

A student can study in New Zealand as a visitor if his course is less than 3 months without a student permit. If the course is more than 6 months you will need a student visa to stay in New Zealand.

Time required for issuing a visitors visa 3 weeks. Normally the student visa is valid for the duration of the study period.

Document Checklist

  • Fully completed Student Visa application form (INZ1012)
  • Your valid passport
  • Application fee
  • A recent passport size photograph
  • An acceptance letter from the Educational Institute in New Zealand
  • Receipt showing payment of course fee (if your student visa application has been approved in principle)
  • Guarantee of accommodation
  • Evidence of availability of sufficient funds for maintenance, via letter/statement from a bank or the Financial Undertaking (View Sample)
  • Evidence of availability of sufficient funds to purchase an outward ticket
  • A police clearance certificate is required if course of study is longer than 24 months
  • A reply paid, self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage. If you want to have your documents returned
  • An Immigration New Zealand Medical and X-ray Clearance if study or course is longer than 12 months (NZIS1096 if stayin in the country for less than 1year or a medical and X-ray certificate for more than 1year )
  • Evidence that you meet the English language requirements (IELTS test scores etc )
  • A completed 'Sponsoring a student' form
  • An award of a full New Zealand scholarship
  • Completed New Zealand Immigration service medical and chest X-ray certificates (Medical clearance form)
  • Check whether your parents have applied for visa if you need a guardian
